Home > About Us > History ATE was established in 1945 as a tool and die shop serving the local automotive industry. Our original services included the manufacture of gages and fixtures. Most of our early business was in the automotive industries that were located here in Anderson, Indiana. We moved to our present site in 1961. Starting with a mere 12,000 square feet, we have undergone multiple expansions, and now occupy more than 85,000 square feet in 7 buildings. Over 30,000 square feet of that space is dedicated to equipment assembly, making us one of the largest specialty machine builders in the Midwest. ATE began to build & assemble special machinery in the 1960’s. We began to produce major pieces of equipment for manufacturs of consumer products. Our ability to provide customers with exceptional quality & service allowed us to continually grow in size and capabilities. We expanded our facilities in 1968, 1978, 1979, 1986, 1992, and 1996. During the last ten years, we have continued to make important strategic changes to our business. In 1991, we purchased the Astro Broach product line so that we could integrate high speed broaching operations into our custom manufacturing lines. Responding to the requests of our customers, we established our Design Engineering Group in 1992. In 1995, the company became an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) company, witht the employees owning 80% of the corporation. Having established a reputation for top-notch electrical work, we created a stand-alone electrical panel building business in 1997. ATE was chosen by Stein Atkinson Stordy Ltd. of Wolverhampton, U.K. as their Manufacturing Service Partner in 1998. SAS is a worldwide leader in Thermal Processing Equipment. They serve the Glass, Steel, & Aluminum industries, specializing in all types of Ovens, Furnaces, Lehrs, & related thermal processing equipment. They also provide metal finishing equipment, degreasers, and coil coating equipment. We are proud of our alliance with SAS, and would be glad to tell you more!
